Catchy Lockyer Stories Mt Whitestone - Insect Adventures
June 21, 2011 05:06 AM PDT
This is a story created with the lower school grades at Mt Whitestone Primary School in the Lockyer Valley in South East Queensland, Australia. When I visited there in the Under 8's Week Bush to Beach Tour, the students had been researching and writing reports about insects. That's what our story was about. It Never Rains but it Pours

Another austoryplace episode from Goomeri State School. Everyone knows the dangers of playing around drains, gullies and culverts during rain. This story from years 6 and 7 students explores that theme with a tragic story from Goomeri's history - the tragic and fatal burning down of the pub in 1939. Thanks to Margaret Anne Clarke for her Creative Commons photo of swirling water on Flickr and the teachers and staff wo helped create this story. Old Henry and the Pumpkin Festival

In Goomeri, in the South Burnett Region of south east Queensland, everyone loves the Pumpkin Festival and helps make sure there's something different each year. This story created by Daryll Bellingham and the year 3, 4 and 5's at Goomeri State School has some fun with some of Goomeri's characters and the Pumpkin Festival. Big thanks to 'shique' for her photo of a Goomeri Pumpkin festival downloaded from her Flickr site and to the teachers at Goomeri for their support. Austoryplace - Goomeri - 'Small, bright and shiny'

September 10, 2009 04:57 AM PDT
A story created with year 4MC / 4RG students at Belmont State School as part of the 2009 Belmont School Literary Festival. It is set in a local park. My aim with Belmont Stories is to encourage a sense of place amongst students by encouraging them to use local settings in their stories. This story, as with many of them, starts with a student memory of a real event and, from this, we work together to create and record the story. This all happens in approximately 45 minutes.
